I just adored this game. The game tells the story of a divided people- the faeries and the lyxies. When the ancients came to this land, one group of people decided to adapt and live together with the new world. They were called the faeries or the wren. Some others wanted to change the world and they went deep into the forest and learnt dark spells that didn’t change the forest but themselves. They became something dark and sinister and they were called the lyxies. They harbored a great hatred for the wren. The survival of the faeries was connected to the great tree. The great tree lives on the pollens of some special flowers found deep in the forest. The tree breathes in these pollens and exhales the life of the faeries. This dangerous task was done by magical creatures called the swee. Now when the time of the great descent is approaching that is when the tree will become self sustained, sinister things are afoot. The swee have been trapped by dark magic and now it is up to the faeries to collect the pollen and protect the great tree until the great descent comes to pass.
I just cant tell you just how much I loved the way the story was narrated. It was amazing. Each level is filled with dangers like snails, snakes, frogs, spiders and many other creepy crawlies. In each level you have to free as many swee as you can and they are these cool powers and you even get to change your wings for better ones. If want to know more, you just have to play the game and find out. You’ll love it.

I love The Great Tree, too--gorgeous graphics, splendid music and sound effects, and unique gameplay that's easy to learn, generally non-violent (save for the occassional bug-zapping spell), and ever-evolving with each of the game's one-hundred levels. Useful power-ups, upgradable wings, various environment-based hazards, and the ability to enhance your fairy's Strength, Agility, Health, and Magic abilities further make this a game worth downloading. You even have unlimited chances to finish the game without suffering a decrease in your score when you get stung by enemy bugs or snatched by hungry frogs or meddlesome Ixies. Think of it as playing a game on your Nintendo or PlayStation where you have unlimited lives, all without the use of a Game Genie or Game Shark game enhancement device. Neat, huh?

The story behind it is pretty well-crafted, too, with a sense of depth and intrigue that any fan of modern-day fantasy or Celtic mythology will truly appreciate. In fact, the only person I've known to trash this plot--and the game in general--is some woman who wrote a review for Alawar.com and basically tried to pass it off as being along the same lines as Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, and various other rated-M games just because the images that showed during the narration scene between each chapter to accompany this story gave her nightmares. Then again, she still managed to play up to the final stage in the game, and had she paid attention to the fact that this is a "GROWN-UP tale of good and evil," her review wouldn't have been so frought with melodrama. To put it simply, then, if Dungeons and Dragons doesn't terrify you, then neither should this game.

Bottom line: The Great Tree is a great game with high-quality audio and visual appeal and plenty of action and replay value. Download it today!

Algie's right. This game is one of the most original and impressive releases of December '07. Basically, the gameplay is similar to that of Feyruna Fairy Forest or the Feeding Frenzy series of games: Move your mouse around to help your fairy collect pollen while dodging hostile insects and rescuing trapped Swee and distribute your pollen collection at the star at the top of the screen. Releasing Swee from their prisons especially has its perks in that doing so grants you Aura Shields, Lightning Bolts, Health Hearts, and other useful power-ups as well as helps you earn stars that you can spend to improve your fairy's mobility, pollen-collecting capability, health, and magical abilities. You can even upgrade your wings to earn such abilities as the power to destroy insects who ram themselves into you or, better yet, become better in dodging them altogether. Why, there are even creatures in the background who try to make life difficult for you, from snapping Venus fly traps to a venom-spewing ant to a human-faced toadstool who exhales petrifying gas at you for disturbing his slumber. Then again, the deep, involving storyline is nothing to sneeze at, either, nor are the high-quality graphics and sound or the unlimited chances you get to complete each level. Honestly, anyone who passes this game up doesn't know what he or she is missing out on. Try it today and see for yourself how great a game it is!

This has got to be one of the greatest games ever. The gameplay seems simple enough. Grab the pollen and deliver it to the top to save the tree. The nice parts are the stat points or star points as they call it. They help you get the edge you need and if you fail you can always redistribute it.

Also, you can free the swee to get the points and use some special power-ups. Lastly, when the tail is full, you can use an attack to boost the point multiplier or not to use it and earn twice as much pollen in the tail.

Also the story line seems nice to watch. It gives out a sense of hope to the fairies.

You have got to try this game. It's simply the best.
